For
the last 10 years, this quote has expressed the quintessential
element on which is based the philosophy of the Promenade
Acting Conservatory: The ultimate goal for the acting
student is to behave moment to moment, spontaneously,
truthfully, emotionally and imaginatively all at the
same time, so that the actor is grounded and prepared
to develop character work from a real place. In the
latter portions of the training the actor learns to
differentiate his own actions and preferences and plays
only the actions and preferences of the character. If
the actor's imagination is not connected to his or her
emotions and body, the resulting performance will be
one-dimensional. One may still be a competent actor,
but the Conservatory's goal is to go beyond the obvious
and to train the actor to develop all of the emotional
colors that exist within the character's inner life.
The result is a performance that is interesting, specific
and emotionally alive. These acting technique elements
keep alive the Conservatory's tradition of putting actors
to work in the theatre, film, and television industries.
The Promenade Acting
Conservatory was founded by Natalia Lazarus as an environment
in which the actor trains to create, explore and develop
a truer confidence while studying the craft of acting.
The individual programs are designed to train the actor
in a warm and supportive atmosphere that encourages
risk taking, commitment and discipline. All classes
are held at the Promenade Playhouse on the 3rd Street
Promenade in Santa Monica, California.
"Less is more is
a myth. In fact, when required, more is more" -
Natalia Lazarus
